Wt ~ tma 554 <br />The report of the Transportation Coordination Steering Committee <br />was brought up. for consideration. Representatives of the committee were present <br />and appeared before the Board. After discussion, Commissioner Rhyne moved that the <br />report submitted by the Committee be approved and that the Chairman be authorized <br />and directed to sign the application for the grant for and on behalf of the County and <br />that the Director-Coordinator, when employed, be directed to work through and with <br />the Council on Aging, Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen seconded the motion and upon <br />a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The Board then took a short recess after which they resumed the <br />transaction of business. <br />The Board next considered the report of the Board of Appraisers <br />appointed for the property needed to enlarge the Airport. The Clerk advised the <br />Board that the City Manager of the City of Sanford had invited the Board to meet <br />jointly with the Board of Aldermen to consider this matter. After consideration, it <br />was moved that when this meeting was adjourned, it stand adjourned to meet at <br />8:00 p. m. , on Tuesday, September 18, 1979, at the City Hall, Sanford, North <br />Carolina, to continue the business of this meeting. The motion was seconded and <br />unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Elwin J. Buchanan, Grants Director, and Mr. Derrell Mullins, <br />Architect, appeared before the Board concerning the repair project on the dam at <br />San-Lee Educational and Recreational Park, Upon motion of Commissioner Gordon <br />A. Wicker, seconded by Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne, it was resolved to appropriate <br />$5, 000, 00, from the Emergency and Contingency Fund to the park fund for the purpose <br />of employing Mr. Mullins as Architect and Engineer to plan the repair to the dam at <br />San-Lee Park, with instructions that the availability of grant funds for such project <br />be ascertained at the earliest possible time. Upon a roll call vote, Commissioners <br />Jack D. Funderburke, K, S. Harmon, Lila P. Nielsen, Clyde J. Rhyne, and Gordon <br />A. Wicker, voted for it and no one voted against it, <br />Mr. Elwin J. Buchanan, Grants Director, reported that a grant of <br />$67, 924, 00 for airport use from the FAA was expected and the Board should make <br />plans to meet on Turesday, September 25, 1979, to accept the offer. <br />The Board next considered various parcels of land which had been <br />acquired through tax foreclosures. After reviewing and discussing the parcels, <br />Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne moved the adoption of the'following: <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SALE <br />OF CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY AT <br />PUBLIC AUCTION <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the <br />County of Lee, desires to dispose of certain surplus <br />property of the County of Lee; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, THAT: <br />1. The following described property is hereby <br />declared to be surplus to the needs of the County of Lee: <br />(a) That tract of land in West Sanford <br />Township, Lee County, conveyed by Carolina Model <br />Homes, to Lee County, by deed dated March 14, 1978, <br />and recorded in Book 289, page 142, Lee County Registry, <br />to which deed reference is hereby made for a more particular <br />description. <br />
