BOOK 20 PAGE 550 <br />LEE (COUNTY <br /> <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL BUDGET WORK SESSION <br />OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR THE <br />COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />MAY 8, 2006 <br />The special budget work session of the Board of Commissioners for the County <br />of Lee, State of North Carolina, was held at 9:00 a.m. in the Gordon Wicker Community <br />Conference Room, First Floor, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, <br />Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Present for the meeting were Commissioners W. <br />Chad Adams, Robert H. Brown, Herbert A. Hincks, Jerry M. Lemmond, Nathan E. <br />Paschal, Robert T. Reives, and Amy L. Stevens. <br />Chairman Hincks presided and the following business was transacted: <br />Commissioner Bob Brown delivered the invocation. <br />Commissioner Reives, Chairman of the Finance Committee, gave the Board <br />updates from the May 5, 2006, Finance Budget Committee meeting. <br />The Board considered a requested position in the FY 2006-07 budget for a <br />Maintenance Worker for the Grounds Department. Assistant County Manager Kenny <br />Cole and Parks and Recreation Director John Payne discussed additional help that is <br />needed to mow and keep the Tramway Park maintained. Currently there are six <br />individuals working in the Grounds Department that is responsible for mowing <br />approximately 11-12 acres per day from March - October each year. From October <br />through March these individuals assist with other work that is not completed during <br />mowing season. Contracting with individuals or teenagers for the summer months was <br />discussed. After some discussion, Commissioner Reives moved to accept the County <br />Manager's recommendation to hire a Maintenance Worker for the Grounds Department. <br />He further stated that he would like the County to discuss with the Lee County Schools <br />contracting some of the mowing with them. <br />The Board considered the current vehicle replacement policy. Assistant County <br />Manager Kenny Cole discussed the policy and told the Board that according to the <br />policy, twenty-five of the County's vehicles should be replaced this year. Mr. Cole <br />further stated that he only recommended the replacement of eleven of the twenty-five <br />vehicles in question. Commissioner Reives stated that the Finance Committee <br />recommended only replacing vehicles for the Sheriff's Department and Social Services. <br />
