AYE: Funderburke, Nielsen, Rhyne, Wicker and Harmon
NAY: None
The report of the Personnel Board recommending that the position
of Dispatcher/ Matron be reclassified as Office Deputy - Grade 59, in the Sheriff's
Department, was presented to the Board. The Board discussed the matter after
which Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved that Personnel Board's recommendation
be accepted and the position be reclassified effective as of October 1, 1979. Comm-
issioner Lila P. Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously
adopted.
A list of surplus personal property formerly used by the Library
was presented to the Board. The Board directed that the list be circulated among
other County departments to determine if it could use any of the property.
The Chairman next called for consideration of the high bid received
for the old Library building property on Steele Street, Sanford, North Carolina. After
discussion, Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen moved the adoption of the following:
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners for the
County of Lee, adopted on August 6, 1979, a resolution
authorizing the sale of the old Library building property
on Steele Street, Sanford, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the sale was duly and lawfully adver-
tised and held and John Renner became the last and high-
est bidder at a price of $30, 100. 00; and
WHEREAS, said sale has been reported to the Board
of Commissioners for its acceptance or rejection;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the bid of John Renner in the amount of
$30,100.00, for the old Library building property on
Steele Street, Sanford, North Carolina, be accepted.
2. That the Chairman and Clerk of this Board are
authorized and directed to execute and deliver a warranty
deed for and on behalf of the County for such property to
the successful bidder or his assigns, upon the payment of
the balance of the purchase price.
Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke seconded the motion and upon
a roll call vote, Commissioners Funderburke, Nielsen, Rhyne, Wicker, and Harmon
voted for it and no one voted against it.
Mr. Lewis Lawrence, Jr. , a student at Lee County Senior High
School, was recognized by the Chairman. Mr. Lawrence was observing the meeting
of the Board as a requirement of a Boy Scout project.
Commissioner Rhyne asked that a study be made to determine what
kind of insurance coverage is provided for Commissioners who serve on other County
agency boards.
The Chairman reported that Capital Area Health System had advised
him that Lee County is eligible to appoint an additional member to the CAHS Board.
The Finance Officer was authorized to place an ad in the Sanford Herald to notify the
public of the vacancy and to start the selection process.
