Information Meeting Date: June 24, 2013 X Action Item Consent Agenda SUBJECT Consider Resolution Establishing and Defining the Cape Fear Fire Protection and Emergency Response Service District. DEPARTMENT Administration CONTACT PERSON Shane Seagroves, John Crumpton REQUEST: Consider and approve Resolution Establishing and Defining the Cape Fear Fire Protection and Emergency Response Service District. SUMMARY In order to improve the fire protection class ratings of all parcels in Lee County when the new annual ratings are established, officers of the Fire Advisory Board, property owners, residents and the seven Rural Fire Protection Districts in Lee County have requested this Board transfer by July 1, 2013 the responsibility of providing fire protection services and emergency medical response in each of Lee County's seven districts from Rural Fire Protection Districts to Rural Fire Service Districts. Pursuant to this Board's directive at its May 6 th meeting, a report was prepared, notices of the public hearing were mailed out to each property owner on June 24, 2013, and a notice of the public hearing was published in the Sanford Herald on June 15, 2013. BUDGET IMPACT N/A ATTACHMENT(S) Attached is the Resolution Establishing and Defining the Cape Fear Fire Protection and Emergency Response Service District. PUBLIC HEARING Yes PRIOR BOARD ACTION On May 6, 2013, this Board made findings concerning the establishment of seven fire protection and emergency response service districts and directed staff to take all actions necessary to allow this Board to make a final legal decision concerning whether to establish the same. On May 20, 2013, the Board set the public hearing date concerning this issue for June 24, 2013. RECOMMENDATION Approve the Resolution Establishing and Defining the Cape Fear Fire Protection and Emergency Response Service District.
