A <br />XX Information & Public Hearing <br />Meeting Date: June 24, 2013 _ Action Item <br />Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT Public Hearing Concerning the Establishment of Seven Fire Protection and <br />Emergency Response Service Districts within the existing Tramway, Deep River, <br />Cape Fear, Northview, Lemon Springs, Carolina Trace, and Northwest Pocket Rural <br />Fire Protection Districts. <br />DEPARTMENT Administration <br />CONTACT PERSON <br />Shane Seagroves, John Crumpton <br />REQUEST: <br />Hold a Public Hearing concerning the establishment of seven Fire Protection and <br />Emergency Response Service Districts in Lee County. <br />SUMMARY <br />In order to improve the fire protection class ratings of all parcels in Lee County when <br />the new annual ratings are established, officers of the Fire Advisory Board, property <br />owners, residents and the seven Rural Fire Protection Districts in Lee County have <br />requested this Board transfer by July 1, 2013 the responsibility of providing fire <br />protection services and emergency medical response in each of Lee County's seven <br />districts from Rural Fire Protection Districts to Rural Fire Service Districts. Pursuant <br />to this Board's directive at its May 6th meeting, a report was prepared, notices of the <br />public hearing were mailed out to each property owner on May 24, 2013, and a <br />notice of the public hearing was published in the Sanford Herald on June 15, 2013. <br />BUDGET IMPACT <br />N/A <br />ATTACHMENT(S) <br />1) Report <br />2) Notice of Public Hearing from June 15, 2013 Sanford Herald <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />Yes <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION <br />On May 6, 2013, this Board made findings concerning the establishment of seven fire <br />protection and emergency response service districts and directed staff to take all <br />actions necessary to allow this Board to make a final legal decision concerning <br />whether to establish the same. On May 20, 2013, the Board set the public hearing <br />date concerning this issue for June 24, 2013. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Hold a Public Hearing concerning the establishment of seven Fire Protection and <br />Emergency Response Service Districts as advertised for this date and time. <br />
