BOOK 9 P,cf 666 <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported that Mr. Leon Morrison, <br />of Route No. 2, Box 222, Sanford, North Carolina, was interested in having the State <br />Highway Division inspect a subdivision road off the Colon Road to determine if the holes <br />in the pavement could be repaired. The Clerk was instructed to request the appropriate <br />officials to look into the status of the road. <br />Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke moved that Dr. J. M. McKinnon <br />be appointed a rabies inspector to carry out the provisions of G. S. 106-364, to 106-387. <br />Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a vote, it was unanimously <br />adopted. <br />Mr. Bob Mooneyham and Mr. Jon Moore appeared before the Board <br />and discussed the operations of the CETA Program. After this discussion, Commiss- <br />ioner Gordon A. Wicker moved the adoption of the following resolution: <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the supervision and operation <br />of the CETA Program in Lee County be turned over to the <br />Lee County office of the Employment Security Commission. <br />Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />The Board next considered the vacancies in the Board of Trustees of <br />the Lee County Library. The Board of Commissioners conducted an election to select <br />three persons from the eight persons nominated. As a result of the election, Mrs. <br />Jane Barringer, Mrs. Edith Makepeace and Mr. Bob Brickhouse, were selected as the <br />appointees. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne moved that the following named persons be <br />appointed to the Lee County Library Board of Trustees for the term indicated and until <br />their successors are appointed and qualify, namely: <br />Appointee Term <br />Mr. <br />Bob Brickhouse <br />June <br />30, <br />1981 <br />Mrs. <br />Edith Makepeace <br />June <br />30, <br />1982 <br />Mrs. <br />Jane Barringer <br />June <br />30, <br />1983 <br />Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a vote it <br />was unanimously adopted. <br />The request of the Sheriff of Lee County, for authority to deputize ten <br />persons as Special Deputy Sheriffs, was presented to the Board. After discussion, <br />Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke, moved that the Sheriff be authorized to deputize <br />ten persons to serve as Special Deputy Sheriffs, and that such persons, while performing <br />duties on behalf of the County,. pursuant to orders and instructions of the Sheriff, be <br />entitled to the benefits under the North Carolina Workmen's Compensation Act, as <br />provided by N. C. G. S. 160A-282. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne seconded the motion <br />and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Mark Luellen, Forest Ranger, and Mrs. Mirander Spencer, <br />Assistant Forest Ranger, appeared before the Board and requested that an additional <br />beeper or pager be purchased for use by their department. Commissioner Gordon A. <br />Wicker moved that the Board authorize the purchase of two beepers or pagers for use <br />by Forestry personnel, in Lee County, out of the present budget appropriation for State <br />Fire Control. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne seconded the motion and upon a vote it <br />was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. J. David Hill appeared before the Board and requested an <br />amendment to the budget for the Youth Commission to authorize the transfer of <br />$184. 00 from "Professional Services" and $416. 00 from the line item, "Transportation <br />of Clients" and the transfer to the line item for "Contracted Services" in the amount of <br />
