BOOK 9 ?mu 674 <br />in the renovation of the swimming facilities at Horton Park <br />and improvements to other supporting facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of <br />Natural Resources and Community Development has <br />offered a grant in the amount of Forty Five Thousand <br />Six Hundred Thirty Eight Dollars ($45, 638. 00) for Lee <br />County's acceptance; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the <br />Board of Commissioners of Lee County to accept the <br />grant offer of Forty Five Thousand Six Hundred Thirty <br />Eight Dollars ($45, 638. 00) and authorize the Chairman, <br />K. S. Harmon, to sign the acceptance of the grant and <br />also to sign the attached agreement as part of this reso- <br />lution. <br />Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke seconded the motion and <br />upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Elwin J. Buchanan reported that he had received notice that <br />an organization was seeking approval to build 50 units of housing for elderly and <br />handicapped persons under a Federal Program. <br />Superintendent Kenneth Brinson and Mr. Mike Womble, member of <br />the County School Board, appeared before the Board and reported on the results of the <br />bid letting for improvements at the high school. <br />Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne moved that the Clerk direct an official <br />request from the Board to the Local Government Commission, advising them that the <br />bids had been received and that the County is ready to proceed for the sale of the bonds <br />in the amount of $7, 700, 000. Commissioner Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a <br />vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner Nielsen asked the Board to consider the Social Services <br />Department Budget Request and the matter was discussed at length. Commissioner <br />Gordon A. Wicker moved that the budget proposal as submitted by the Department of <br />Social Services, be amended to cut the increase requested for medicare and travel by <br />one-half to eliminate the extra employee and with such amendments that the budget <br />request be tentatively approved. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne seconded the motion <br />and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen moved that the County Attorney draft <br />a resolution for consideration by the Board which would provide for the employment of <br />a County Manager. Commissioner Funderburke seconded the motion and upon a vote all <br />members of the Board voted for the motion except Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, <br />who voted:"no". <br />Commissioner Jack D.
