i BK:00025 PG:0620 LEE COUNTY Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow BUDGET WORK SESSION OF THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 106 HILLCREST DRIVE SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA 27330 MAY 23, 2013 The budget work session of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 1 p.m., in the Gordon Wicker Conference Room, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners Charles T. Parks and James K. Womack were in attendance at the beginning of the meeting. Commissioner Amy M. Dalrymple joined the meeting at 1:50 p.m. Commissioner Kirk D. Smith joined the meeting at 3:35 p.m. Staff in attendance included County Manager John Crumpton, Assistant County Manager /Finance Director Lisa Minter, and Clerk to the Board Gaynell Lee. Chairman Parks called the budget work session to order. The first order of business was to discuss the FY 2013 -14 budget requests for Commissioners. Clerk to the Board Gaynell Lee presented the budget and answered questions. Discussion took place in reference to Commissioners meeting Registration and Travel line items, along with the BRAC line item. After discussion, it was agreed that the Registration line item would be increased from $2,700 to $3,700 and the Travel line would be increased from $3,000 to $5,000. It was agreed that the BRAC line item would be removed and not funded in the upcoming year. Commissioner Womack expressed his desire for Lee County to join the American Counties for Energy Independence organization at an annual member fee of $500.00. It was agreed that the Dues & Subscriptions line item would be increased from $17,500 to $18,000 to cover this annual membership fee. It was also suggested that the Advertising line item be increased from $400 to $1,000 to cover public hearing and board appointment ads. Commissioners reviewed the Administration budget for FY 2013 -14 budget requests. County Manager John Crumpton presented the budget and answered questions. It was recommended that an additional $20,000 be added to the budget line item for Professional Services for this fiscal year and $5,000 be added to the upcoming budget line item. Commissioner Dalrymple joined the meeting during this discussion.
