BOOK 21 PAGE 831 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />MINUTES FROM THE FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING <br />OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR THE <br />COUNTY OF LEE. STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />SEPTEMBER 10, 2007 <br />The Finance Committee meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, <br />State of North Carolina, convened in the Small Conference Room, Lee County Government <br />Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, immediately following the regular meeting of <br />the Board. Commissioners present included Robert H. Brown, James C. Kelly, and Robert T. <br />Reives. County Manager John Crumpton, County Attorney K. R. Hoyle, Finance Director Lisa <br />Minter, Clerk to the Board Gaynell Lee, Economic Development Director Bob Heuts, and Solid <br />Waste Superintendent Joe Cherry were also present. <br />Finance Committee Chairman Robert Reives called the meeting to order and the following <br />items were discussed: <br />Lee County Industrial Park - An appropriation of $4,100 for an engineering study to begin <br />the process of bringing the Industrial Park into compliance with Federal permits was discussed. <br />Economic Development Director Bob Heuts updated the Committee on the existing conditions at <br />the Industrial Park and discussed land options and land owners. Mr. Heuts stated the project <br />needs to move forward but can not until an engineering study has been completed. He further <br />stated it could take up to two-years to receive something in writing from the Corps of Engineers, <br />therefore, the County needs assistance with the process to complete requirements. After <br />discussion, Commissioner Brown moved to approve $4,100 for an engineering study. Upon a <br />vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Brown, Kelly, and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />Chairman Reives moved the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Solid Waste Landfill Discussion - County Manager John Crumpton stated the final report <br />from Richardson Smith Gardner & Associates had been received in reference to a <br />recommendation in closing the County's C&D Landfill. After some discussion, Mr. Crumpton <br />stated he felt it was in the best interest of the County to close the permitted section of the C&D <br />Landfill as of June 30, 2008, at a cost of $210,000, and approve the use of Richardson Smith <br />Gardner & Associates to assist with the closure process. The Convenience Center's will remain <br />open and the public will take landfill material to the Waste Management Transfer Station on <br />
