B K 00025 PG
Section 6. Lee County can see no benefit in being placed in a region where the Major
Metropolitan area is Mecklenburg County.
Section 7. It is over a 115 miles from Sanford to Charlotte by indirect travel, but it is only 40
miles from Sanford to Raleigh by direct four lane travel.
Section 8. Wake County is our natural Major Metropolitan partner and we would prefer to
stay in a region with them.
Section 9. In addition, because of Fort Bragg and its direct transportation link via Highway
87 to Lee County through Harnett County, Lee County has a close association to
Harnett County and the other members of the Fort Bragg Regional Alliance.
Section 10. Mecklenburg County and its adjacent counties have no direct affiliation with Fort
Bragg or Lee County.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby requests
that we be placed in a region in which we have natural economic, transportation, and cultural and
commonality of interest.
FURTHERMORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the County Clerk will forward copies of this resolution to our
local North Carolina Senate and House legislative delegations, the North Carolina Association of
County Commissioners and, if enacted, the Study Commission on Regionalization Conformity.
Adopted this 15th day of April 2013
. 4 ` t
Charles T. Parks, Chairman
Lee County Board of Commissioners
