BK:00025 PG - 0505 <br />LEE COU N TY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />RESOLUTION OF THE LEE COUNTYBOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS RELATED TO SB 127 <br />A Bill to Establish Uniform Geographical Administrative Divisions for the State of North Carolina <br />WHEREAS, Lee County recognizes the importance of Regional Cooperation between State and <br />Local Governments in North Carolina; and <br />WHEREAS, Lee County also recognized the importance of grouping counties into regional <br />configurations based on economic, geographic and cultural similarities or with a <br />commonalty of interest. <br />WHEREAS, a Bill has been introduced in the North Carolina Senate that would create regional <br />divisions for the purpose of establishing uniform administrative regions in this State for <br />State Agencies that have regional offices; and <br />WHEREAS, the intent of the legislation is to consolidate regional offices and establish a one -stop <br />source in each region for citizens and businesses seeking State services at a regional <br />level; and <br />WHEREAS, the State Divisions that will be affected by the legislation if enacted are the Department <br />of Transportation, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Regional <br />Economic Development Commissions; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed legislation would create a Study Commission on Regionalization <br />Conformity by the General Assembly; and <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS that: <br />Section 1. The Lee County Board of Commissioners encourages the State of North Carolina <br />to review its current structure and to make consolidations and changes that <br />benefit all the citizens of North Carolina. <br />Section 2. Lee County is concerned that the draft map removes the long- standing, regional <br />partnerships the County currently has in the Research Triangle Region and with <br />the Fort Bragg Regional Alliance. <br />Section 3. Lee County's natural regional partners are Wake, Chatham, Moore, and Harnett <br />Counties and these natural alliances should be considered when determining the <br />final reorganization. <br />Section 4. Lee County is in the center of the US -1 transportation corridor that runs from <br />Wake County through Chatham County through Lee County to Moore County. <br />Section 5. Lee County is the home of the "Raleigh Executive Jetport". <br />
