BRITT <br /> REGISTER OF DEEDS <br /> FILED Jan 16, 2025 <br /> AT 12:20:16 pm <br /> BOOK 00004 <br /> START PAGE 0091 <br /> END PAGE 0092 <br /> INSTRUMENT # 00274 <br /> EXCISE TAX (None) <br /> SPEED REDUCTION RESOLUTION FOR AVENTS FERRY ROAD (NC-42) FROM <br /> WELDON LANE TO HILLCREST FARM ROAD FROM 55 MPH TO 45 MPH <br /> WHEREAS, Avents Ferry Road (NC-42) has a speed limit of 55 MPH; and <br /> WHEREAS, Avents Ferry Road is a major east to west thoroughfare for eastern Lee <br /> County serving the Chatham County industrial area, as well as a alternate route to US-1; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, Drivers while traveling east and west on Avents Ferry Road (NC-42) must <br /> negotiate a series of curves at 55 MPH or more approaching the multi-intersection of <br /> Salem Church and Buckhorn Roads; and <br /> WHEREAS, Today, drivers have to slow down to negotiate turning onto Salem Church <br /> Road, Buckhom Road, or the commercial business Tri-River Bait and Tackle adding to <br /> the hazardous conditions resulting in crashes and near misses as vehicles traveling east <br /> or west around a curve at 55 MPH or more; and <br /> WHEREAS, This section of Avents Ferry Road runs through a congested residential area <br /> on a series of curves which restrict visibility placing residents, many elderly, in fear of <br /> collision with speeding drivers; and <br /> WHEREAS, Vehicles turning off Avents Ferry Road to either of these establishments risk <br /> either a rear-end collision or t-bone collision from vehicles traveling east at 55 MPH or <br /> more on an severally obscured curves; and <br /> WHEREAS, NC-42 Corinth Road in Chatham County, the speed limit through the <br /> congested residential area of Corinth has a speed limit at 35 MPH; and <br /> WHEREAS, NC-42 in Harnett County, the posted speed limit is 45 MPH; and <br /> WHEREAS, Deep River Road, a State Maintained highway that has no blind curves and <br /> is predominately a straight thorough-fare from the US 15/501 intersection to the US-1 <br /> interchange has a 45 MPH Speed Limit, and through the Moncure Community in Chatham <br /> County the speed limit is 35 MPH; and <br /> WHEREAS, Citizens compiled a petition (copy attached)with 109 signatures of residents, <br /> and patrons urging the Lee County Board of Commissioners and the North Carolina <br /> Department of Transportation District 8 office to reduce the speed limit from 55 MPH to <br /> 45 MPH; and <br />
