LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />RESOLUTION TO PRESERVE AND DEFEND THE <br />UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION <br />AND THE <br />NORTH CAROLINA CONSTITUTION <br />WHEREAS, the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states "A well- regulated militia, being necessary to <br />the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed'; and, <br />WHEREAS, Article 1, Sec. 30 in the North Carolina Constitution states: "A well- regulated militia being necessary <br />to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"; and, <br />WHEREAS, a militia when properly formed is in fact the people themselves and includes all citizens capable of <br />bearing arms; and, <br />WHEREAS, the difference between "citizens" and "subjects" is the right to lawfully possess and bear arms; and, <br />WHEREAS, our constitutional provision "necessary to the security of a free State" means that the right of the <br />people to bear arms is the ultimate barrier to government tyranny; and, <br />(W WHEREAS, excessive gun control only ensures that law- abiding citizens become defenseless victims to the <br />actions of criminals and terrorists; and, <br />WHEREAS, President Obama recently announced 23 anti - gun /anti- citizen initiatives — by using Executive Orders <br />to bypass the Legislative process with the intent of diminishing our constitutionally protected right to self- defense; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, our Sheriff has issued a pledge to support our citizens' right to keep and bear arms and to fight <br />against any illegal or unconstitutional attempts to seize the lawfully obtained firearms of law abiding citizens; and, <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners commend and support our <br />Sheriff in his efforts to protect our citizens' lawful rights to possess and bear arms. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners petition and call upon North <br />Carolina's Congressional Delegation, its Governor and its General Assembly to take all lawful steps necessary to <br />contest or curtail such infringement of our citizens' constitutional rights and the traduction of the United States and <br />North Carolina Constitutions. <br />Adopted this 4th day of February 2013. <br />Charles T.
