ldft <br />BOOK 1 PaGF 4$1 <br />LEE d©ooo© Gnooaoa <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />PROCLAMATION <br />PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK <br />APRIL 2-8, 2007 <br />WHEREAS, we hereby recognize and acknowledge 60 years of public health service to the <br />residents of Lee County, North Carolina, and the immeasurable contribution of these services to <br />the quality of life in our County, and <br />WHEREAS, the benefit of public health exist everywhere, everyday, and for everybody, <br />regardless of religious, ethnic or socioeconomic conditions, and <br />WHEREAS, only public health has the unique responsibility and expertise necessary to <br />ensure that communities in Lee County are healthy places in which to live, work and play; and <br />WHEREAS, public health measures to control and eliminate infectious diseases, improve <br />environmental sanitation, and promote healthy lifestyle practices have been the greatest cause <br />of improved health status and increased life expectancy for Lee County residents; and <br />WHEREAS, the role of autonomous, local boards of health remains critical to the <br />development and implementation of sound public health policy and protection of the public <br />health interests of our communities, and <br />WHEREAS, the public health legacy of health promotion and disease prevention must be <br />fully and adequately maintained throughout the 21s` century in order to realize the human and <br />financial benefits possible with the public health approach, and <br />WHEREAS, the public health commitment to increase the span of healthy life for the <br />residents of Lee County, North Carolina, eliminates health disparities, and promotes access to <br />preventative health services, has been advanced by the many contributions of public health. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, We the Lee County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim April <br />2-8, 2007, as "Public Health Week" in Lee County, North Carolina, and urge citizens to <br />recognize that public health is working everywhere, everyday and for everybody, and to <br />participate in events celebrating this important occasion. <br />Adopted this 1g`h day of March 2007. <br />Robert H.
