After some discussion, Commissioner Stevens moved to <br />approve the request of the Centennial Committee to have the body of Mr. Jacob <br />Gaster moved to the grounds of the Lee County Courthouse once legal aspects <br />are met with the State Cemetery Commission. Commissioner Reives asked if <br />there were any other knows veterans/persons who might qualify for future burial <br />at the Lee County Courthouse. Upon a vote of Commissioner Stevens' motion, <br />the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Brown, Kelly, Lemmond, Paschal, Reives, Shook, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a recommendation from the Lee County Planning <br />Board in reference to a rezoning petition by Mr. Larry Godfrey to rezone <br />approximately 1.16 acres of land located east of Old Jefferson Davis Highway <br />from Residential Agricultural (RA) district to Highway Commercial (HC) district. <br />Planner Althea Thompson stated the Planning Board unanimously approved the <br />above-referenced rezoning petition. Commissioner Reives moved to approve the <br />recommendation of the Planning Board in the above-referenced rezoning petition <br />for Mr. Larry Godfrey. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Brown, Kelly, Lemmond, Paschal, Reives, Shook, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a preliminary plat for "Copper Ridge", a new 53-lot <br />subdivision to be located off Farrell Road (SR 1466). Planner Althea Thompson <br />stated the Planning Board approved the preliminary plat for "Copper Ridge" with <br />a variance to allow one entrance. Commissioner Reives moved to approve the <br />recommendation of the Planning Board for the preliminary plat of "Copper Ridge" <br />and a variance for one entrance into the development. Upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Brown, Kelly, Lemmond, Paschal, Reives, Shook, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board discussed revenue options submitted by Chatham County <br />Commissioner Mike Cross. Mr. Cross furnished information as it relates to a 1% <br />Land Transfer Tax vs. Education Lottery. Commissioner Stevens stated she <br />didn't have a problem endorsing such a fee and Commissioner Shook stated she <br />was not in favor of such a tax for Lee County. Commissioner Kelly stated he <br />liked the option of having a Land Transfer Tax if it should be needed down the <br />3 <br />
