BOOK PAH
Mr. Elwin J. Buchanan, Grants Director, requested a budget
amendment regarding the Deep River Water Line Project. Commissioner Lila P.
Nielsen moved that the Board approve the transfer of $500. 00 from Line Item No.
10-490-02, Salaries, to Line Item No. 10-490-33, Administrative Expenses, for the
purpose of paying for services by Williams & Works, Inc. , on the Deep River Water
Line Project.
Mr. Elwin J. Buchanan reported that the Department of Transportation
personnel had performed the Profile and Topographic Survey on Rhyne Drive for the
water and sewer lines at no cost to the County.
Mr. Buchanan also reported that an application had gone to the
EDA in Atlanta on the Industrial Park.
Mr. Buchanan further reported that Mr. Allen Wahab, Supervisor
of Local Planning of the Management Branch of the North Carolina Division of
Environmental Planning, was arranging a trip to Lee County to familiarize himself
with the County as related to the request for the expanded planning area of the Sanford
Wastewater Facility Plan.
The request of Mr. S. F. Westbrook, Tax Supervisor, for relief
and refund of taxes were presented to the Board. The requests were as follows:
William R. Munden, Jonesboro Township, for the year 1980, in the amount of $17. 81,
because the property was double listed. Mortimer B. Hermal, Greenwood Township,
for the year 1980, in the amount of $18. 90, because the value on the tax abstract was
not changed after hearing before the Board of Equalization and Review, and Roger R.
Morris, West Sanford Township, for the year 1980, in the amount of $27. 25, because
the property card had the wrong lot measurements. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker
moved that the tax Supervisor and Tax Collector be authorized and directed to make
refunds to the parties whose request were presented to the Board in the amounts
named. Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke seconded the motion and upon a roll
call vote, Commissioners Funderburke, Nielsen, Rhyne, Wicker and Harmon voted
for it and no one voted against it.
The County Attorney reported that Sion Roberts had requested that
$250. 00 be deducted from the purchase price of the New Hope School property because of
vandalism between the date of the gale and the date of acceptance of their offer by the
Board. The County Maintenance Supervisor had inspected the building and recommended
acceptance of the proposal. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne moved that the County
reduce the sales price of the New Hope School by $250. 00 for vandalism. Commission-
er Jack D. Funderburke seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously
adopted.
The County Attorney reported on the progress of the Godfrey suit con-
cerning the Airport in the Federal Court.
The Chairman called the Board's attention to the letter from the
Tax Supervisor requesting approval of a new abstract form.
The Chairman called the Board's attention to the letter from the
Council on Aging concerning the Vial of Lifle Program.
Upon motion of Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, seconded by
Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne, the Chairman was authorized to issue proclamation
respecting textile week in North Carolina and the Council on Aging program.
