P <br />goon 9 PAACF 83,13 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE <br />COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, December 1st, 1980 <br />T ~<T;k =k r m T T; :k ~-g; ~ ok:;:.°,: $::;r:;: ~ ~:k T;`• •-'6;~ $<>;ot ok $c <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County <br />of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners Room on the second <br />floor'of the County Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, at <br />9:30 o'clock a. m. Those present were Commissioners Jack D. Funderburke, K. S. <br />Harmon, Lila P. Nielsen and Gordon A. Wicker. It appearing that the terms of <br />Gordon A. Wicker and Clyde J. Rhyne as County Commissioners having expired and <br />the Board of Elections having certified that Gordon A. Wicker had been re-elected for <br />a four year term and that Dr. John E. Dotterer had been elected to a four year term. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker was present to qualify for office, however, Dr. <br />John E. Dotterer was absent due to illness. <br />Chairman K. S. Harmon called the meeting to order and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />Reverend James Hampton opened the meeting with a prayer. <br />The Chairman recognized Mr. Sion H. Kelly, the Clerk of Superior <br />Court, who was requested to administer the oath of office to the Honorable William A. <br />Christian, Judge of the District Court Division of the General Court of Justice, Eleventh <br />Judicial District. After Judge Christian had taken the oath of office he was requested <br />to administer the oath to the elected County officials. Commissioner Gordon A. <br />Wicker was recognized and qualified for office by taking the appropriate oaths, a copy <br />of which is attached to these minutes and by this reference made a part hereof. Mrs. <br />Pattie W. McGilvary was recognized and was administered the oath as Register of <br />Deeds of Lee County by Judge William A. Christian. Mr. M. P. Womble was recog- <br />nized and was administered the oath as a member of the Lee County Board of Education <br />by Judge William A. Christian. Mr. Lewis W. Powell was recognized and was adminis- <br />tered the oath as a member of the Lee County Board of Education by Judge William A. <br />Christian. Mr. J. Glenn Edwards was recognized and was administered the oath as a <br />member of the Lee County Board of Education by Judge William A. Christian. Mr. <br />Gregory Davis was recognized and was administered the oath as a member of the Lee <br />County Board of Education by Judge William A. Christian. Following the ceremony' <br />of the induction of the County officials, the Board took a short recess to allow families <br />and friends of the newly inducted County officials to offer their congratulations. Follow- <br />ing the recess, the Chairman called the meeting to order and introduced the County <br />Manager, Mr. Walter B. Hartman, Jr., to the persons in attendance. <br />The Board then proceeded to re-organize and first held an election <br />for the position as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners. Ballots were dis- <br />tributed and collected and tallied with the following result: Commissioner Funderburke <br />voted for K. S. Harmon, Commissioner Nielsen voted for K. S. Harmon, Commissioner <br />Harmon voted for K. S. Harmon, and Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker voted for Dr. <br />John E. Dotterer. The Clerk announced that Commissioner K. S. Harmon had been <br />elected Chairman by a majority vote. Thereafter, Chairman Harmon presided over the <br />meeting. <br />The next order of business was the election for the position of Vice- <br />Chairman for the Board of Commissioners. Ballots were distributed and then collected <br />and tabulated with the following results: Commissioner Funderburke voted for Lila P. <br />Nielsen, Commissioner Harmon voted for Lila P. Nielsen, Commissioner Neilsen voted <br />for Lila. P. Nielsen, and Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker voted for Dr. John E. Dotterer. <br />
