g a{ 9 Pr,c. 840 <br />3. Letters will be sent to each homeowner stating the results of the <br />inspection. If the home does not meet the Minimum Housing and Rehab <br />Standards, processing of the owner's application will continue. All <br />statements made by an applicant when applying for Community Development <br />funding to rehabilitate substandard housing will be thoroughly <br />investigated by the County Cormiunity Development Staff (statements of <br />total household income, number of persons residing in household, disabled <br />persons in family, applicant's age, etc.) <br />4. An appraisal will be conducted to determine the life expectancy of the <br />property and the economic feasibility of rehabilitation. <br />5. If the application is approved, the department will prepare specifications <br />for the work required to be done to bring the dwelling up to code <br />standards and the County will solicit competitive bids. The Lee County <br />Board of Commissioners will award the grant between the homeowner and <br />the contractor. <br />6. Before the bids are offered, interested contractors may be taken to view <br />the dwelling units by the Community Development Staff. This will enable <br />the contractors to know the exact requirements of the job. <br />7. Upon completion of work and as often as necessary during construction, <br />a member of the Building Inspection Department will inspect the home. <br />If the work meets all specifications, payment will be made directly to <br />the contractor by the County. <br />ELIGIBLE REPAIRS <br />Rehabilitation Grants will be provided for the purpose of residential <br />property rehabilitation. The major concern of rehabilitation will be to <br />bring housing conditions up to State and County building codes and <br />Rehabilitation Standards. A grant may be used to pay for labor and supplies to: <br />1. Meet the requirements of the State and County building codes and <br />Rehabilitation Standards set forth and attached hereto. <br />2. Make structural changes which will increase the mobility of a <br />physically handicapped or elderly resident. <br />3. Promote energy conservation and provide "basic equipment" including <br />such items as heating furnace; hot water heater, electrical and <br />sanitary fixtures, kitchen stove and refrigerator (does not include <br />other applicances). Repair, or purchase and installation of "basic <br />equipment" is permitted only if there is no such equipment in the <br />dwelling unit, or if existing equipment in the dwelling unit is unsafe <br />or unsanitary because of its physical condition. <br />4. Rehabilitation repairs will alleviate structurally unsafe or unsound <br />conditions. <br />-3- <br />
