BOIII( ~ ?;ECG <br />Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen moved that the secondary road which <br />runs from Secondary Road No. 1464 to the plant being constructed by William H. Rorer, <br />Inc. , be named "Rorer Way". Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. S. Vernon Stevens, Jr. , appeared before the Board representing <br />the Stevens family as owners of the E. C. Watson subdivision in Broadway to appeal the <br />tax valuation set by the Tax Supervisor's office. Apparently the property had been <br />overlooked or the paperwork mislocated during the revaluation work. Mr. S. F. West- <br />brook, Tax Supervisor, also appeared before the Board. After hearing the property <br />owner and the Tax Supervisor, the Board took the matter under advisement. <br />Mr. S. F. Westbrook, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board and <br />presented a list of taxes imposed through clerical error, a copy of which is attached to <br />these minutes and made a part hereof. Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen moved that relief <br />be granted in accordance with the list presented by the Tax Supervisor. Commissioner <br />Jack D. Funderburke seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The Board then considered the appeal of the Stevens family on the <br />E. C. Watson Subdivision. Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen moved that the values as <br />established by the Tax Supervisor be affirmed. Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke <br />seconded the motion and upon a vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Thomas Johnson, Director, Health Department, appeared before <br />the Board and reported on the condition of the X- Ray machine at the Health Department. <br />He reported that it was impractical to repair the present equipment and recommended <br />the purchase of a machine which produced a larger picture. He estimated the cost <br />would range from $11, 000. 00 to $14, 000. 00. For a larger machine the cost of film and <br />processing would also increase. Mr. Johnson also suggested the imposition of a small <br />charge to help defray the cost of the service. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved <br />that the District Health Department be authorized to prepare specifications and advertise <br />for bids for the purchase of an X-Ray machine which bids are to be submitted to and <br />opened by the Board of Commissioners. The motion also endorsed the idea that the <br />District Health Department initiate a charge for this service. Commissioner Lila P. <br />Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Ron Ferris and Mr. Taylor Uzzell appeared before the Board <br />on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Commission. They reported to the Board that <br />the Commission had prepared and hoped to file an application for a grant from the Z. <br />Smith Reynolds Foundation for $175, 000. 00, which would be used to renovate and enlarge <br />the facility at the Jaycee Park in Sanford for use by senior citizens, handicapped, and other <br />special groups. After discussion and assurance that this was a 100% grant from a private <br />foundation, Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved that the Board endorse and approve <br />the Parks and Recreation Commission's application for such grant and authorize the <br />Chairman to issue a letter to that effect. Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke seconded <br />the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />
