LEE COUNTY 7 NU <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />SPECIAL CALLED MEETING <br />FOR THE <br />STRATEGIC GROWTH WORK SESSION <br />OF THE <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />LEE COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER <br />106 HILLCREST DRIVE <br />SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA 27330 <br />JANUARY 16, 2013 <br />The Strategic Growth Work Session of the Lee County Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 12 Noon in the Gordon Wicker <br />Conference Room, 1 st Floor, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, <br />North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners present were Amy M. Dalrymple, Dr. Ricky D. <br />Frazier, Charles T. Parks, Kirk D. Smith, and James K. Womack. Commissioner Dr. Andre <br />Knecht and Commissioner Robert T. Reives were absent. Staff in attendance was County <br />Manager John Crumpton, Assistant County Manager /Finance Director Lisa Minter, Attorney <br />Kerry Schmid, and Clerk to the Board Gaynell Lee. <br />Chairman Parks called the work session to order and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />Chairman Parks delivered the invocation. <br />The pledge of allegiance was recited. <br />The meeting was turned over to Mr. Ted Abernathy with Southern Growth Policies who <br />presented economic competitiveness factors, and comparisons of Lee, Harnett, Johnston, <br />Chatham, and Moore Counties were presented on percentage of population under 18, <br />percentage of population age 65 and over, percentage of white individuals (not Hispanic), <br />percentage of citizens with high school degree or higher, percentage of citizens with BA <br />degree or higher, percentage below poverty level, percentage of median household income, <br />labor force change from 2000 — 2011, unemployment percentage from 2000 through July <br />2012, unemployment percentage since 2000, Lee County residents employed, and Lee County <br />in- county jobs. Mr. Abernathy presented a slide showing Lee County Jobs by Sector which <br />included the following percentages from each area: <br />Manufacturing 34% <br />Trade/Trans 16% <br />
