Box 1968 Sanford, NC 27330 Subject: Mileage Rate and Increase Dear Mr. Crumpton, CO Central Carolina Advanced Life Support (CCALS) requests an adjustment of mileage rates, BLS, and ALS rates. Effective 30 days from the date of this notice. We ask that our basis rates for BLS services increase $325 to $390, that our ALS rates increase $380 to $456 and that our ALS-2 rates increase $435 to $522. We also ask that the rate adjustment be applied to our current approved mileage rate of $9/mile, increasing that to $11/mile. We are asking for rate increase for the following reasons: CCALS has not asked for a rate increase since 2005. Cost of Diesel fuel has more than doubled in the last 2 years. CMS has updated the fee schedule file to reflect the recent increases mandated by the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008. This law increased the amounts paid for ground ambulance services by 2% for urban and 3% for rural. The increase applies to both the base rates and mileage. However, CMS increases of reimbursement will not increase until our rates are at minimum.
