a <br />nm iQ <br />The Board next discussed the Medicaid Program and were advised <br />that the budget for the Department of Social Services faces a deficit because of in- <br />creases in this program. <br />The Board next discussed the request of the Register of Deeds to <br />initiate a program to photocopy and duplicate record books in a smaller size. <br />Commissioner John E. Dotterer moved that the Register of Deeds be authorized to <br />advertise for bids for the project for consideration by the Board. Commissioner Lila <br />P. Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The request of the Maintenance Department for a compact truck was <br />discussed by the Board. Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke moved that the County <br />Manager be authorized to advertise for bids for a compact truck. Commissioner <br />John E. Dotterer seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The County Manager discussed the plan whereby Counties, through <br />the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, were self-insurers, for <br />workmen's compensation. <br />The Board next discussed Legislative matters and upon motion of <br />Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen, which motion was seconded by Commissioner John <br />E. Dotterer, and unanimously adopted upon a vote, opposed Legislation which would <br />limit ad valorem taxation to fifty cents. <br />The Board considered the Revenue Sharing Budget and upon motion <br />of Commissioner John E. Dotterer, moved to appropriate the sum of $70, 000. 00 <br />from Revenue Sharing Funds for the purchase of a front end loader for the County <br />Landfill. Commissioner Funderburke seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />The Board, upon motion made and duly seconded and unanimously <br />adopted, went into Executive Session to discuss matters pertaining to industrial <br />prospects. The Executive Session was concluded following which upon motion made <br />and unanimously adopted, the Board resumed its public session. <br />There was discussion about the use of the teacherage building at <br />Lemon Springs but no formal action was taken. <br />At the request of Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, the Board <br />instructed the County Manager to pay the bills submitted by Orville Starr for ambulance <br />bills in full as rendered. <br />The Board next considered whether or not it would observe Easter <br />Monday on April 20, as a holiday. It was concluded that the holiday would be observed <br />and that the Board's meeting would be held on Tuesday, April 21. <br />
