BOOK 22 PdGt 253- <br />The Committee discussed additional funding for HAVEN of Lee County. At the May <br />19, 2008 public hearing, representatives from HAVEN requested full funding of their $10,000 <br />request. The County Manager has recommended $5,000 of their $10,000 request. <br />Commissioner Shook asked that information be obtained from HAVEN in reference to the <br />number of city residents verses county residents served, and also if individuals from other <br />counties are assisted at the shelter. After some discussion, Commissioner Kelly moved to <br />recommend to the full Board that $5,000 of additional funding be approved for HAVEN. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Kelly, Reives, and Shook <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Committee discussed funding for the Lee County Schools. After discussion, <br />Commissioner Shook moved to recommend to the full Board that the County allocate funds <br />to the Lee County Schools by "purpose and function" and allow movement of funds not to <br />exceed 10% without Commissioner approval. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Kelly, Reives, and Shook <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Shook moved to reduce the County Manager's recommended <br />Schools budget by $100,000 ($15,602,134 to $15,502,134). Upon a vote, the results were <br />as follows: <br />Aye: Reives and Shook <br />Nay: Kelly <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a two to one vote. <br />The Committee discussed additional staffing for the Lee County Sheriff's <br />Department. Commissioner Shook suggested the following cuts, totaling $276,097, be <br />made that would allow two deputies's to be hired at the Sheriff's Department in addition to <br />the recommended two dispatchers, one jailer, and the two grant positions: <br />• $100,000 from the Lee County Schools <br />• $120,000 from Economic Development <br />• $ 14,000 from Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action <br />• $ 42,097 for the Deputy County Attorney <br />After discussion, Commissioner Shook moved to cut $276,097 from the recommended <br />budget to fund two deputy positions, effective January 1, 2009, along with the two <br />dispatchers, and one jailer, effective July 1, 2008.
