Mr. Bare- <br />foot then presented a plat of the J., Floyd Holt property in Pocket Township, which <br />subdivision was granted a variance at a prior meeting of the Board. There had <br />been a delay in presenting the plat and getting the signature of one property owner <br />but the plat was now in proper order for recordation. Commissioner Jack D. <br />Funderburke moved that the plat be approved in keeping with the prior action taken <br />by the Board. Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a vote <br />it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Elwin Buchanan appeared before the Board and presented a <br />resolution authorizing the Board of Commissioners to undertake to exercise the <br />powers and duties of a Redevelopment Commission. A copy of the resolution is <br />attached to these minutes and by this reference made a part hereof. Commissioner <br />John E. Dotterer moved that the resolution be adopted. Commissioner Lila P. <br />Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Chairman Robert Dalrymple of the Lee County Board of Education <br />appeared before the Board and presented the budget request on behalf of said Board. <br />Mrs. Pattie McGilvary, Register of Deeds, appeared before the <br />Board to discuss with the Board, bids received for reproducing the records in smaller <br />binders. Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen moved that the low bid of Hall & McChesney <br />in the amount of $17, 306. 14, with tax, be approved and accepted. Commissioner <br />John E. Dotterer seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The Board next considered the report from the Board of Elections <br />verifying that the petitions from the Deep River Fire District and the Northview <br />Fire District were sufficient to call an election. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker <br />moved the adoption of the following Resolution: <br />WHEREAS, a Petition was presented to the Board <br />of Commissioners, requesting an election for the purpose of <br />submitting to the qualified voters living in an area outside of <br />the corporate limits of any city or town, which area is <br />described in the petition and designated as Northview Fire <br />District; and <br />WHEREAS, said petition has been examined and it <br />has been determined that said petition has been signed by <br />at least fifteen percent (15%) of the resident freeholders <br />in said area; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has con- <br />sulted with the County Board of Elections as to a date for <br />the election in said district; <br />
