1/26/2023 <br /> • City is considering a major shift in g" <br /> their approach to urban <br /> development <br /> • Staff is consistently receiving ' s <br /> development requests for projects <br /> that include much smaller lots than <br /> the majority of the city's current <br /> zoning allows (most of the city's � ,g�:Ve• <br /> undeveloped areas are R-20) <br /> • As such, City Council was presented <br /> with not only new rules for urban ` <br /> residential development (changes to !r► , <br /> the UDO), but also the opportunity <br /> to "upzone" the residential zones in <br /> the city to more accurately reflect , <br /> the desire for higher density. <br /> y,. <br /> Moving forward (proposed work plan)... <br /> • Planning staff is recommending two major projects in terms of <br /> continuing our program of growth management: <br /> • Additional updates to the UDO to focus on multi-family and non- <br /> residential development ("Phase II" of our UDO overhaul) <br /> • Major update to the land use plan as it is now S+ years old and based <br /> mostly on data and information from 6-10 years ago <br /> • A third consideration, as a Lee County only project, would be to <br /> revisit the county's current residential zoning and update to <br /> match the land use plan (similar to what is being completed for <br /> Sanford and Broadway) <br /> 3 <br />
