I found an additional 5 locations;(2)in the West exterior CMU
wall,(2)in the East exterior CMU wall,and(1)in the South exterior brick wall. The cracks in the CMU walls do not appear to
daylight through the brick veneer to the outside, but the crack in South brick wall does daylight in several places. I have
highlighted these areas in an attached sketch and also provided pictures of the cracking. Please advise if any repair or
replacement work needs to take place at these or other locations. Additionally there are many places in the existing CMU&
brick walls the have missing or cracked mortar or holes from existing hardware that was removed. Please advise if a general
point up is desired on the interior or exterior walls.
Attachments
photol8.jpg,pholol7jpg,photot6.jpg,photol5.jpg,photol4.jpg,photol3.jpg,photol2.jpg,photoll.jpg,photol0.jpg,
photo9.jpg,photo8.jpg,photo7.jpg,photo6.jpg,photo5.jpg,photo4.jpg,photo3.jpg,photo2.jpg,photot.jpg,RFI#8-Additional
Cracking of Exterior Load Bearing Masonry Walls&General Point Up.pdf
Awaiting an Official Response
All Replies Response from Mike Patton Mcgill Associates on Wednesday,Dec 7,2022 at 12.17 PM EST
A due date of 12/10/2022 for a response from the Architect Is unreasonable. Please revise the due date to 12/16/2022 in
order to allow enough time for the Architect to answer RFI.
Architect/Enoineers Response
The CMU cracks should at the most be caulked on the interior and left alone. For the most part these interior cracks will be covered
by the insulation and gypsum board on the interior face of the building.
In locations where water would penetrate the we suggest that head and bed mortar joints where these cracks are located be
sawed out and properly tuck pointed to seal up the Cracks. In these areas it will most likely be necessary to do this with both the
brick and CMU joint cracks.Care should be taken to color the new mortar to closely match the existing mortar sawed out.
J.M.Thompson Page 1 of 1 Printed On:Dec 15,2022 03:30 PM EST
