P -2 <br />PAGE 9OF12 <br />APPENDIX A <br />PAGE 3OF6 <br />EFFECT OF RATES <br />For existing residential customers, the proposed rates (excluding the effects of all <br />riders) would change the bill of a residential customer using 1,000 kWh a month, as <br />follows: <br />Existing <br />$ /month <br />Proposed <br />$ /month <br />Change ($) <br />$/month <br />Change <br />$105.44 1$120.23 <br />1$14.79 <br />114.0% <br />The dollar amount and percentage change will vary with each customer's level of <br />electricity usage. <br />The increases shown above include a basic customer charge increase from <br />$6.75 to $13.50 for most residential customers. The basic customer charge would <br />increase from $12 to $17 for most small general service customers, and from $12 to <br />$21 for medium general service. The basic customer charge for most large general <br />service customers would be reduced from $500 to $160. <br />Time -of -use, general service, and interruptible customers would experience <br />increases and /or decreases in their monthly bills based upon their particular rate <br />schedule and usage level. <br />The Commission will consider additional or alternative rate design proposals that <br />were not included in the Company's application and may order increases or decreases <br />in individual rate schedules that differ from those proposed by the Company, but will not <br />consider any increase in total revenues beyond that requested by the Company. <br />OTHER MATTERS <br />A list of present rates, together with details of the proposed adjustments in rates, <br />can be obtained at the business offices of PEC or at the Office of the Chief Clerk of the <br />Commission, Dobbs Building, 430 North Salisbury Street, Raleigh, North Carolina, <br />where a copy of the application is available for review. These materials, as well as <br />pleadings, pre -fled testimony and exhibits of other parties, hearings transcripts, briefs, <br />` The calculation of the typical bill for 1,000 kWh is based on changes resulting from this general <br />rate case proceeding, including the impacts from the Fuel Adjustment Rider and Energy Efficiency Rider <br />either already approved by, or pending before, the Commission in other dockets. <br />
