BK:00025 PG - 0211 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />RESOLUTION <br />IN SUPPORT OF <br />ENDOR IRON FURNACE <br />WHEREAS, the Endor Iron Furnace, located in Lee County, North Carolina, is a historical and <br />cultural resource of the State and is one of the last remaining Civil War industrial structures of <br />its type; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, the Triangle Land <br />Conservancy, and the Sanford Railroad House Historical Association have jointly agreed to a <br />multi - phased project plan to stabilize and preserve the Endor Iron Furnace; and <br />WHEREAS, Phase I would complete all the requisite archaeological studies, a 3 -D seismic <br />study, and other activities needed to stabilize this Civil War era facility; and <br />WHEREAS, subsequent phases of the Endor Iron Furnace project are still in need of private <br />funding and grants. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of Commissioners fully <br />supports the prompt completion of Phase I of the Endor Iron Furnace restoration project and <br />encourages private benefactors and grant funding sources to contribute to the funding of <br />subsequent phases of this project so this unique Civil War era landmark may be restored as it <br />approaches its 150 -year anniversary. <br />Adopted this 15 day of October 2012. /� <br />Nathan E.
