LEE COUNTY
©000a oanoao©
Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow
LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ITEM ABSTRACT ITEM NO. VI. B.
_ Information
Meeting Date: October 15, 2012 XX Action Item
Consent Agenda
SUBJECT Employee Wellness Program
DEPARTMENT Human Resources
CONTACT PERSON Joyce McGehee, SPHR, Human Resources Director
REQUEST Approve Implementation of Employee Wellness Program
SUMMARY It is proposed that a Wellness Program be implemented that is
designed to promote health awareness, encourage healthy choices, exercise, proper nutrition and
prevention of disease. It would consist of blood pressure and Lipid screenings, health risk
assessments, proper nutrition, and weight -loss programs. Central Carolina Hospital will
administer the program and maintain the highest level of confidentiality for our employees. The
cost for the program was included in the Human Resources 2012/2013 budget. It is proposed
that the County reward employees who participate in the wellness program by reducing monthly
premiums $25 per month beginning August 1, 2013. Those enrolled in the HSA who participate in
the wellness program will get the $1,000 contribution into their HSA account (the amount of HSA
contribution is determined each benefit year). Those that do not participate in the programs will
continue to pay premiums at the stated rate and those in the HSA will receive a $700 contribution
to their HSA account.
Currently 204 employees are enrolled in the HSA plan and 140 employees are enrolled in the
PPO Plan. It is impossible to project how many employees will participate in the Wellness
Program to earn the reward.
BUDGET IMPACT Program expense $10,000 (currently budgeted)
ATTACHMENT(S) Power point presentation
PUBLIC HEARING No
PRIOR BOARD ACTION N/A
RECOMMENDATION Approve implementation of Employee Wellness Program as
presented.
