VI.E Accessibility for Parks (AFP) Grant for O.T. Sloan Park
Parks and Recreation Director Joseph Keel presented a request to apply for an
Accessibility for Parks Grant for O.T. Sloan Park. The Accessibility for Parks (AFP)
program provides $10 million for parks and recreation grants to benefit children and
veterans with disabilities in North Carolina. Local governments, including some
public authorities, are eligible to apply for the matching grants. The program is
administered through the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation and the N.C. Parks
and Recreation Trust Fund. The matching grants can be used to build accessible
facilities or adapt existing facilities that meet the unique needs of children and
veterans with physical and developmental disabilities. Local governments can
request a maximum of$500,000 with each application and must match the grant
with at least $1 of local funds for every $5 in grant funds. If awarded, the O.T. Sloan
Accessibility Project will include an all-inclusive playground, sidewalks and restroom
renovation. In 2018, a site-specific master plan for O.T. Sloan Park was done that
has an accessible playground. He requested the Board approve moving forward with
applying for the grant and approve matching funds of$100,000 that would be
associated with a $400,000 grant. The site plan will be updated as a part of this
process.
scan ikeel_2022-07-28-14-01-17.pdf
Motion: Motion to authorize Parks and Recreation to move forward with
applying for the AFP grant funding in the amount of$400,000 with a
local match of$100,000.
Mover: Dr. Andre Knecht
For: 7 - Arianna Lavallee, Dr. Andre Knecht, Robert Reives, Cameron Sharpe,
Kirk Smith, Bill Carver, Mark Lovick
Motion Result: Passed
VLF Ting Fiber Active Cabinet Proposal
Brandon Wagner was present on behalf of Ting to present a request to grant an
easement for the purpose of installing a fiber active cabinet as part of the
infrastructure needed in expanding broadband.
