Ting Fiber Active Cabinet Proposal - Lee County 112 Hillcrest Drive
Ting Fiber
1230 Perry Road
Apex, NC 27502
To whom it may concern:
Ting Fiber is an internet service provider, operating in several locations throughout the United
States, including several towns in the Raleigh-Durham Metro area. If you haven't heard of Ting,
no worries! We're a fiber internet company that brings symmetrical gigabit speeds to towns and
cities across the US. What is symmetrical gigabit? Symmetrical means the same speed (1000
megabits)for both upload and download. In other words, the fastest Internet around! Our staff is
located throughout Canada and the USA, with our current Raleigh area team based in Apex,
and Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Ting is planning an expansion of its fiber optic network footprint to Sanford, North Carolina in the
coming months, and as part of this planning process, we have identified a need to construct a
telecommunications cabinet, intended to house a small cluster of electronics required to service
our customer base in a portion of Sanford. Ting is requesting to construct within a future, yet to
be approved & finalized, easement near the north west corner of 112 Hillcrest Drive, near the
property line with 200 Hillcrest Drive. The proposed build in this easement would include a
telecommunications cabinet measuring 4'x4' at the base, and approximately 6' in height, would
be placed on a poured concrete slab at grade, and connected to a nearby Duke Energy
transformer via underground electrical conduit. Ting would also construct underground conduit
to the nearby right-of-way to meet with its fiber optic network that is planned to be constructed to
the rest of the city. Depending on the final agreed upon location, some minor traffic protection
may be requested in the form of traffic rated bollards or posts to provide additional protection to
the facilities. Construction and any future maintenance to the equipment and easement area is
to be completed fully at the cost of Ting Fiber.
Through a thorough review of the area by our local engineering team, the property at 112
Hillcrest was brought to Ting's attention as a possible location that may suit the needs of this
project. After several discussions between Ting Fiber and Lee County staff, Ting has decided to
move forward with our request to the Lee County board of commissioners, requesting approval
to proceed with easement negotiations on this site.
The projected timeline for construction is to begin in the later part of Q3, 2022, or early Q4 2022,
dependent on board and easement approval. Construction is expected to take approximately 6
weeks from the date it commences, and should cause minimal disruption to the nearby
residents, Lee County staff, or others in the vicinity of the work area.
