BK:00025 PG:0080
County Manager's Report — August 20, 2012
Onaoina Proiects
Clyde Rhyne Road - Industrial Park Project - The Wooten Company has heard back
from NCDOT on their recommendations for the road standards. Our initial design was
actually exceeding what the traffic study indicated it would take for the DOT to accept
the road into their maintenance system once it is completed. This is very good news
and allows The Wooten Company to move quickly with the remaining part of design and
permitting. They have already notified DENR that we will be asking for express
permitting through Land and Water Quality Divisions. It will still be a challenge to get
the road paved before the end of the paving season (November /December). Below is a
report from The Wooten Company on what to expect going forward. Our anticipated
design completion date is the 1st of September. The following specific design elements
are ongoing:
1. Cross - sections are being revised to adjust tie -back locations and identify any
adjacent properties that will need temporary construction easements (TCE).
2. Special lateral and base ditch design, including shear stress computations to
evaluate temporary and permanent reinforcement matting or armoring
3. Roadway plan sheet annotation and detailing
4. Coordination with General Services (Marc Clark) including provision of survey
control data for the benefit of Challenge Printing driveway apron tie.
3 week look ahead
1. Adjust cross - sections to reflect special ditch sections, includes populating
invert elevations and stationing
2. Add special ditch centerline (both right and left) to profile sheets with
annotation.
3. Erosion control design including drafting of skimmer basins and grading in on
the base drawing and annotation.
4. Preparation of stormwater management report and assemblage of stormwater
computations for insert to report and tabulation on plans.
5. 90% plan level completion
6. Quantity take -offs and preliminary bid form
7. Technical and front -end specifications (draft)
