Their mission is to foster intercultural understanding <br /> and empowering people through the challenges they face. The Hispanic Liaison's Central <br /> Office is in Siler City and in April, a secondary location was opened in Lee County. An office <br /> has been sublet in HAVEN. They partner with local organizations to help connect the <br /> Hispanic community to resources. They have provided collaboration for services related to <br /> the COVID-19 response. They recently launched the Lee County COVID-19 Collaborative. <br /> 310 Hispanic adults and children have received individual assistance this past year. 118 Lee <br /> County community members were vaccinated against COVID-19. 29 adults and children <br /> received free immigration services. Since 2019, support has been received through various <br /> investors. <br /> Veterans Council <br /> Wendy Bryan, member of the NC Veteran Memorials Committee, appeared on behalf of <br /> the Veterans Council. Currently, the NC Disabled and Caregivers Memorial will have an <br /> indoor memorial that will recognize the sacrifice of disabled veterans. This project is <br /> currently under construction. The memorial adds to the aesthetics of the park where it is <br /> located. Dr. Sloan is the chair of the construction committee. <br /> Community Training Systems <br /> Roshan Night, Founder of Community Training Systems was present on behalf of the <br /> organization. In 2005, they formed a mission to empower disadvantaged individuals to <br /> provide foundation through education, training and life skills. CTS offers education <br /> programs and career training for high school equivalency diplomas, life skills classes and <br /> community trade classes. CTS provides affordable transitional housing and has properties <br /> located at 306, 318 and 325 Mclver Street. Their goal is to house at least 10 homeless <br /> people, and right now they are successful at six. They are looking at rehabilitating the <br /> Simmons Building to provide additional housing as their next project. <br /> Abundant Exchange Services, Inc. <br /> Sharon Williams, Executive Director, was present on behalf of Abundant Exchange <br /> Services, which been in operation since 2016 providing community support for pregnant <br /> teens through education, counseling and education of independent living skills. Their target <br /> audience is women ages 16 to 30. They also provide information regarding preventive health <br /> and wellness. Ms. Williams said they are hoping to provide a clothing closet for moms and <br /> babies. They have provided health and wellness seminars, education on healthy choices, <br /> interview skills, life skills and managing a household. They will be doing a 3K at Kiwanis <br /> Family Park this Saturday. The requested funding is for obtaining updated computers along <br /> 6 <br />
