the event. The organization requested $3,000 to match funds from the state. The Arts <br /> Council offers grants to other organizations to fund arts and culture opportunities. <br /> County Attorney Whitney Parrish reminded the Board members about changes to North <br /> Carolina General Statute Section 14-234.3 that indicate that no public official including <br /> elected board members shall knowingly make or administer a contract with a non-profit for <br /> which the public official is associated. The statute doesn't define association, but sitting on a <br /> board or being closely involved would be in violation of the statute since these would be <br /> positions of influence. <br /> Railroad House Historical Association <br /> Marty Stevens, Immediate Past President, provided information on behalf of the Railroad <br /> House Historical Association. The Railroad House Museum is the only museum for Sanford, <br /> Lee County and Broadway. They have many donated artifacts and feature the most <br /> important one, the Railroad House in downtown Sanford. The facility costs $10,000 annually <br /> to operate and is run by volunteers. Grant requests are submitted to both the County and <br /> City of Sanford to provide ongoing funding for the Railroad House. This year, Representative <br /> John Sauls secured a grant from the State for $100,000, which is earmarked for capital <br /> improvements. The funds will be used to address several repair projects that are needed. <br /> The money must be spent within a year. Heat and air must be operational at all times to <br /> preserve the artifacts. There will be a 150th birthday celebration event held on October 16, <br /> 2022 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. <br /> Temple Theatre Company, Inc. <br /> Ga van Pamer, Associate Assistant Director at Temple Theatre, and Raven Pandelosia, <br /> Marketing Director, provided information on behalf of Temple Theatre. Peggy Taphorn has <br /> been the Producing Director for 15 years. Over that time, Temple has seen tremendous <br /> growth and community support. Temple Theatre's 100th anniversary is coming up. The <br /> Theatre uses Lee County funding for operating costs and various other expenses. Temple <br /> Theatre is working on overcoming the challenges of COVID-19. Temple Theatre brought in <br /> 40,000 visitors annually from 60 counties prior to COVID-19, and the attendance numbers <br /> are now returning. New season tickets are on sale. <br /> Commissioner Lavallee arrived at 4:30 p.m. <br /> Temple served over 600 youth prior to the pandemic and have amped up youth <br /> programming since then to provide safe interaction. Numerous scholarships have been <br /> provided so everyone is included. Temple Ensemble performed during the holidays and at <br /> special events. The Temple Teen Ensemble provides performances free of charge. Temple <br /> has been working with some of the local schools to partner on musicals. There has been <br /> minority student engagement through student matinees. Student matinees are offered to <br /> schools at the price of$8 per ticket. Temple also has a program with 4-5 actors that tour <br /> through the school districts. This stopped during the pandemic and is now starting back this <br /> year. Temple received PPP money and are one of the few arts organizations that stayed <br /> open during the pandemic. They are working with local contractors to perform renovations. <br /> "Page to Stage"or "Story Time" were some ideas expressed for partnership programs that <br /> could be done with the Lee County Library. Temple Staff are bonded and an endowment <br /> program has been started to help sustain the Temple in the future. <br />
