backbone of our governmental support departments. The County Manager has 18 direct reports that <br /> this position is responsible for in KRONOS. The County Manager needs to be more involved and <br /> communicating with the Board of Commissioners on policy matters and communicating on a more <br /> frequent basis with our community partners (LCBOE, CCCC, SAGA, City of Sanford and the Town of <br /> Broadway). Along with these responsibilities is the County Manager's involvement in major capital <br /> projects. Going forward, this involvement will grow as will the need to be able to communicate with the <br /> Commissioners more effectively so as to develop policy to address issues in our growing county. <br /> Based on the needs of the departments we support; I am recommending that the Commissioners add 2 <br /> full-time Assistant County Manager positions to assist the County Manager with managing and <br /> supervising the day-to-day operations of county government. The current Assistant County <br /> Manager/Finance Officer position will become a full time Assistant County Manager and a new full time <br /> Finance Officer position Is recommended. This Assistant County Manager position will be responsible <br /> for Departments that support other departments within Lee County Government. The second full-time <br /> Assistant County Manager position will be responsible for Departments that support direct services to <br /> our citizens (please see attached organizational chart). Their proposed titles will be, Assistant County <br /> Manager for Governmental Support and Assistant County Manager for Operational Services. The <br /> County Manager will maintain direct responsibility for supporting the Office of the Sheriff, Office of the <br /> Register of Deeds, Courthouse functions and all State Agency relationships. The County Manager will <br /> also be responsible for contractual relationships with the City of Sanford and Town of Broadway where <br /> we provide joint operations. <br /> As we start this year's budget review, it is clear that the needs of our county are growing. Our <br /> organization is now growing to address these needs. We need to be ahead of this growth by making <br /> sure our organization continues to be positioned to address needs as they arise. <br /> Thank you and I look forward to working with Board as we move forward in the budget process. <br />
