• CO(, <br /> WO !.1s <br /> llb 40 <br /> - <br /> 1/1/ (:;SRO. <br /> LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> BUDGET WORK SESSION <br /> BUGGY BUILDING CONFERENCE ROOM <br /> 115 CHATHAM STREET <br /> SANFORD, NC 27330 <br /> May 23, 2022 <br /> MINUTES <br /> Roll Call <br /> Commissioners Present: Robert Reives, Cameron Sharpe, Kirk Smith, Bill Carver <br /> Commissioners Absent: Arianna Lavallee, Mark Lovick, Dr. Andre Knecht <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Chairman Smith called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. <br /> BUDGET DISCUSSIONS <br /> Lee County Board of Education <br /> Chairman Sandra Bowen called the meeting to order on behalf of the Lee County <br /> Board of Education. <br /> Dr. Andy Bryan, Lee County Schools Superintendent, said in the budget requests <br /> provided by the Schools, the main priority is the increase in local supplement which <br /> would increase 10-12% for certified staff and 4-6% for classified staff to remain <br /> competitive in hiring with other school districts. Capital budget requests maintained the <br /> same amount of money as requested last year. Dr. Bryan said the School Board voted 7- <br /> 0 to recommend the proposed budget. Commissioner Carver requested definitions for <br /> the codes in the future when providing the budget requests to help the Board understand <br /> the requests made by school. The Schools provide school improvement plans that are <br /> put through curriculum studies and go through the Board of Education. Commissioner <br /> Carver asked about test scores and challenges that come with the performance grades. <br /> Commissioner Cameron Sharpe said he supports the proposed increase in local <br /> supplement. Commissioner Carver stated in order to increase the amount of money <br /> given to the schools for teacher supplement, there needs to be more information <br /> provided regarding performance measurement. Dr. Bryan provided the Board with <br /> information regarding ESRI funding to the Schools. <br /> Commissioner Knecht arrived at 6:18 p.m. <br /> 1 <br />
