term (4 years) served, up to a maximum of five continuous years of health insurance coverage. The <br /> County will continue to provide employer paid health insurance coverage for the County <br /> Commissioner who leaves office under these criteria until covered by Medicare, at which time the <br /> plan would be changed to a Medicare Supplement plan as long as the County Commissioner remains <br /> eligible. The County Commissioner must elect and pay any required costs for Medicare Part A <br /> and/or Part B to be provided eligible coverage for the Medicare Supplement plan. The County will <br /> subsidize the Medicare Supplement plan for the eligible Medicare County Commissioner based on <br /> the policy issue age, not to exceed the "employee only" group health insurance cost for active <br /> employees. <br /> C. Deductions shall be allowable, at the option of the employee, to provide hospitalization <br /> and other insurance for dependents in accordance with the provisions of the insurance <br /> contracts. <br /> 3.5 Retiree Health Insurance for Employees Hired Prior to March 1, 2010 Lee County <br /> provides continuing hospitalization insurance to certain qualified retirees. In order to <br /> qualify for this benefit all of the following requirements must be met: <br /> A. Employee must retire from Lee County service with a benefit from the NC Local <br /> Governmental Employees' Retirement System; <br /> B. Employee must be age 55 or older and have 20 years of creditable service with <br /> the Retirement System, or the employee can be any age with 30 years of <br /> creditable service with the Retirement System; AND <br /> C. Employee must have at least 15 years of continuous Lee County employment <br /> immediately preceding retirement. <br /> D. In the event that an employee sustains an on-the-job injury, as defined by the NC <br /> Workers' Compensation Act, which qualifies him/her for disability retirement <br /> under the provisions of the NC Local Governmental Employees Retirement <br /> System, said employee will be considered as qualifying for the retiree health <br /> coverage as long as he/she has a minimum of 15 years of continuous Lee <br /> County service immediately preceding termination of employment. <br /> Said employee will be given the retiree health coverage benefit upon application <br /> for disability retirement with the understanding that a determination by the <br /> Medical Review Board that the employee does not qualify for disability retirement <br /> under the provisions of the NC Local Governmental Employees Retirement <br /> System will cause the employee's coverage to be terminated immediately. <br /> E. If the above criteria are met, the retiring employee will be provided with an <br /> individual policy until he/she becomes covered by Medicare. This policy will be <br /> the same as the standard policy offered to active employees.
