Commissioner Kirk Smith and
Walter Ferguson, who serve as County appointments on the Sandhills Center Board,
were commended for their service. Mr. Ferguson also chairs the Client Right's
Committee. For the 18th year in a row, the request for county funding was held at the
same amount as the previous year at $240,000. The reason the County funding is held
at the same rate is because in 2012 Sandhills Center took over the management of
Medicaid, and if they are able to manage dollars they are able to keep the savings to
reapply in the community. There are four projects the Sandhills Center uses some of
these funds for including the association with Brick Capital, Daymark Recovery case
management services, funding of positions with Lee County School System for mental
health clinicians and the support of the Department of Social Services providing funding
3
