D. No citizen of Lee County may serve in more than two (2) appointed positions at one
time for which the Lee County Board of Commissioners is the appointing authority.
E. Unless otherwise stated by Statute, or By-Laws, all terms of office where terms of office
are determined by the Board of County Commissioners, shall be three (3) years. With
three year terms, an individual would normally serve a maximum of two (2) terms. An
individual whose initial appointment is to fill an unexpired term or an initial staggered
term of less than three years or is appointed as an alternate shall be eligible to serve the
number of full-length terms other members are eligible to serve unless prior to the time
for reappointment that individual has already served six consecutive years in a regular
(non-alternate) capacity. If the Board of Commissioners is unable to attract applicants
for upcoming vacant positions or determines that an individual's continued
contributions is needed to maintain the effectiveness of a board, commission
committee or authority, the Board may waive this policy by proceeding with the
appointment.
F. Appointments designated as an alternate may, without further action of the Board,
fulfill a regular seat when a resignation or vacancy occurs. The length of the term will
expire based on the original date of appointment. New appointments that are
appointed to fulfill a seat that has been vacated with an unexpired term shall be
appointed to fulfill the remaining length of the unexpired term.
G. Commissions, committees or organizations appointed for special ad hoc tasks shall be
exempt from this Policy.
H. All Board members shall remain current on their taxes or be subject to removal from
their appointment(s).
I. Immediate family members (i.e. parents, spouse, children, etc.) may not serve on the
same board, commission, committee or authority.
Section 2: Attendance Requirement
Any member who fails to attend at least 75% of the regular meetings, except for
excused illness, or other extraordinary circumstances, of the commission, committee, board or
authority during any one calendar year period shall be removed from said commission,
committee, board or authority. Each commission, committee, board or authority is hereby
empowered to define the term "extraordinary circumstances" on a case-by-case basis and
excuse absences because of illness and extraordinary circumstances. The Chairman of each
commission, committee, board or authority shall notify the Commissioners of any member of
whose unexcused absences exceed 25% of the regular meetings. Members not meeting this
75% attendance requirement may be removed by action of the Board of County Commissioners
and replaced by another interested individual.
Section 3: Authority to Appoint and Remove
