BK:00025 PG:0039
County Manager's Report — July 16, 2012
Onaoina Projects
1) Clyde Rhyne Road - Industrial Park Project - The NCDOT has finished the new
traffic count at the intersection of Clyde Rhyne Road and Womack Road. We are
now waiting on the final report from them on road specification
recommendations. The original count had to be redone when it was found out
that one of the counters had been hit and was not counting the traffic. This delay
added another 2 to 3 weeks of time for finalizing the design of the road. Our
Engineer (Wooten and Company) has been very patient in waiting on this
information. They have also met with Challenge Printing and are working on a
temporary solution to their new entrance onto Clyde Rhyne Road. Challenge
Printing would like to have access to pavement so they can keep the dust down
at the facility. Dust is a real problem for their operations due to what they are
producing in the facility. Once again, we are on hold at 30 percent complete with
the design of the project. The remaining 70 percent should go quickly once the
traffic count is completed and DOT gives the go ahead with the specifications.
We are still hopeful for a fall paving of the road. Any further delays with the DOT
or DENR will push paving into the spring.
2) Courthouse /Basement Project - The Contractor for the basement renovation is
now 45 percent complete. All the walls for the project are now up. Electrical and
plumbing rough -in work is complete. IT is working on the technology wiring
rough -in with the contractor at this time. Emergency Management is working
with the E -911 Board and the City of Sanford on the finalization of certification of
the backup 911 system. This certification will allow the use of current E -911
funds in the operation of the system. We also will be working on a grant through
the 911 Board for additional equipment in the 911 Center.
3) Buchanan Park Renovations - Parks and Recreation and General Services are
very close to completing the renovations of the Park. A grand re- opening of this
park damaged by the April 16, 2011 tornado will be in August or September. We
will make sure the celebration is very well advertised.
Other Items
1) Human Resources and the Employment Security Commission have completed
the 2012 employee survey. I have been over the results with the HR Director
