the Pool is complete next summer. Sidewalks and the new basketball courts at Temple
Park are nearing completion. The contractor is also working on the monument to the
history of the park and should be complete by November 1. Adding playground
equipment to Phase 1 in this park is something staff wants to discuss once we get closer
to the completion of all the Parks and Government Center projects. Work on the tennis
courts at OT Sloan continues. Completion of this phase of the Master Plan should be
completed by October 31. The contractor was awarded additional time based on weather
delays. Some work may continue into November
Website Redesign RFQ — An RFQ went out to companies who had expressed interest
in the County's redesign of our website. The Commissioners provided funding for this
project in the current fiscal year budget. A small team of Kyle Edwards, Jennifer Gamble
and Hailey Hall have been meeting and discussing the proposals. The team has also
meet with a few of the companies and is now reviewing a firm they would like to
recommend to the Manager and the Commissioners. I will be sending out additional
information on the progress of this project as we move closer to placing this on an
upcoming Commissioners agenda.
Other Items
COVID-19 Update — the Manager will provide an update at the meeting.
San Lee Mountain Bike Trails — Gravity Park — Black Diamond Trail Design has
completed the dedicated return and emergency trail and a green/beginner level trail - 1 .
Work is over 50 percent complete on the green level jump line — trail 2. Work on the
intermediate trail 3 will begin any day. The contractor has received a lot of input on the
trails from the public. We had 150 responses to our online survey. Staff is reviewing the
comments with the contractor. As we have communicated before, a local group of biking
enthusiasts has started a chapter of the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA).
Back to Dirt Conservancy has been established as a non-profit chapter of IMBA and is
currently growing. They are planning an organizing day at San Lee on Saturday
November 13. Specifics will be communicated, as we get closer to this date.
December/January Meeting Schedule — Each year the Commissioner's first meeting of
the month of December conflicts with the Sanford Christmas parade. In addition, this
year the second meeting of the month is the Monday of Christmas week. NC General
State 153A-39 states that in the odd-number year the first regular meeting is the
organizational meeting for the Board of Commissioners. We are recommending that due
to the parade, holiday schedule, and looking forward to agenda items, the Commissioners
should reschedule the December meetings and conduct one meeting on Monday
December 13, 2021. In January, we are recommending that we move our meetings to
the 2nd and 4th Monday's due to conflicts with the New Year's Holiday and the Martin
Luther King holiday on January 17. The New Year's holiday is December 31 . With many
employees taking the week of December 27 off pushing back the first meeting of January
would allow us to get back from the holidays and develop the agenda. This would place
our January meetings on the 10th and the 24th with the annual budget kickoff/retreat
