PROCLAMATION HONORING <br /> SHERIFF TRACY CARTER <br /> WHEREAS, Sheriff Tracy Carter began his career in law enforcement with the Town of <br /> Broadway Police Department in 1986 working part time before accepting a full time position as <br /> a jail officer, and later that same year becoming a deputy sheriff and DARE officer with the Lee <br /> County Sheriff's Department; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 1993 Sheriff Tracy Carter accepted a position with Lee County Schools as the <br /> first Chief of Special Police serving through 2006; and <br /> WHEREAS, Sheriff Tracy Carter was elected and began his service as Lee County Sheriff on <br /> December 4, 2006; and <br /> WHEREAS, Sheriff Tracy Carter holds a BAS in Human Services and Criminal Justice from <br /> Campbell University in addition to an Advanced Certificate in Law Enforcement from the North <br /> Carolina Sheriff's Training and Standards Commission, graduated in 2010 from the North <br /> Carolina Sheriff's Leadership Institute, received a distinguished alumni award from Central <br /> Carolina Community College in 2012, was nominated in 2014 to the Campbell University <br /> Alumni Committee, and was appointed by Governor McCrory to serve on the Juvenile Justice <br /> Planning Committee under the Governor's Crime Commission; and <br /> WHEREAS, when Sheriff Tracy Carter began his career, Lee County had a population of <br /> 50,948 compared to 63,285 today and continued to provide excellent service while <br /> accommodating the growing community; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Board of Commissioners wish to express their sincere appreciation to Sheriff <br /> Tracy Carter for his loyalty and dedication to Lee County over the past 35 years including his 15 <br /> years as Sheriff providing exemplary leadership in law enforcement and wish him the best in all <br /> his future endeavors. <br /> NOW THEREFORE,the Board of Commissioners hereby proclaim Friday, December 31, <br /> 2021, as: <br /> SHERIFF TRACY CARTER DAY <br /> Presented and adopted this 13th day of December, 2021. <br /> Ki .
