0 <br />a001'1 to <br />in violation of this ordinance, shall be impounded by the Animal Control Section <br />and confined in an animal shelter in a humane manner. Impoundment of such an <br />animal shall not relieve the owner thereof from any penalty which may be imposed <br />for violation of this ordinance. <br />_ Sec. 2. Notice to owner. <br />Immediately upon impounding an animal, the Animal Control <br />Section shall make reasonable effort to notify the owner and inform such owner <br />of the conditions whereby the animal may be redeemed. If the owner is unknown or <br />cannot be located, notice of such impoundment shall be posted for five (5) days or <br />until the animal is disposed of, on a bulletin board at the animal shelter, and the <br />time and place of the taking of such animal, together with the time and date of <br />posting the notice shall be stated therein. <br />Sec. 3. Redemption by owner generally. <br />(a) The owner of an animal impounded under this article may redeem <br />the animal and regain possession thereof within one hundred twenty (120) hours <br />(five /5/ days) after notice of impoundment is given or posted, as required by Section <br />2, by complying with all applicable provisions of this chapter and paying a redemption <br />fee, any necessary veterinarian's fee, and a daily boarding fee at the rate to be de- <br />termined by resolution of the Board of County Commissioners. Fee rates shall be <br />available for public inspection in the office of the County Manager and the Lee,County <br />Animal Shelter. If a dog has been impounded and does not have a current privilege <br />tax tag, the privilege license, together with any interest and penalties provided by <br />law, must be paid before the dog may be redeemed. <br />(b) No animal owner may be permitted to adopt his own animal <br />under the provisions of this section, but he must comply with the provisions of <br />Section 3(a) in order to reclaim an animal that has been impounded pursuant to <br />state law or this article. <br />Sec. 4. Destruction or adoption of unredeemed animal eenerall <br />(a) If an impounded animal is not redeemed by the owner within <br />the period prescribed in section 3, it may be destroyed in a humane manner or <br />shall become the property of the animal shelter(s) and offered for adoption to any <br />responsible adult who is willing to comply with this ordinance. Such animal may <br />be adopted or purchased by the first such person who pays the adoption or purchase <br />fee and rabies vaccination fee. No rabies vaccination fee will be required for <br />animals sold to dealers licensed pursuant to the U. S. Department of Agriculture's <br />Animal Welfare Act. <br />(b) The Animal Control Section may recommend that all adopted <br />female dogs and cats released from the animal shelter be spayed. <br />
