<br />pD~~ 1d 3F1L <br />RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina State Legislature must approve a Re- <br />districting Plan every decade; and <br />WHEREAS, various plans submitted by the Legislature have been <br />refused by the United States Justice Department; and <br />WHEREAS, the Legislature has proposed new boundaries for the <br />14th and 15th Senatorial Districts; and <br />WHEREAS, these proposed boundaries will unacceptably divide <br />Harnett County and dilute the voting strength of Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners have adopted <br />a resolution in support of an alternate plan; and <br />WHEREAS, larger counties with more than one delegate should be <br />considered for division before smaller counties that must already <br />share delegates; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF <br />COMMISSIONERS that the County of Lee opposes the existing proposal <br />to form Senatorial Districts 14 and 15. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT LEE COUNTY endorses the alternate <br />proposal endorsed by Harnett County to leave-the two counties of <br />Lee and Harnett intact and to include a small section of Wake County <br />in the new Senatorial District. <br />Adopted this 4th day of February, 1982. <br />K.
