Turner - Shelton Application to Serve On
Boards /Commissions
1) Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
2) CCCC Board of Trustees
I wish to serve on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Commission because I believe that as
a female disabled veteran of color, I can give other women veterans and women in general a voice
making the grievance hearings the board conducts more robust to serve them. In addition to this, I
offer a unique insight as a disabled person on the things that are important to disabled people —
women in particular —with regard to providing access to and participation in public facilities,
services, activities, and functions. This insight would well serve the board in reaching a deeper
understanding of the grievances where the commission is capable of doing more thorough
assessments of each case — resulting in more effective decisions. I also serve as an active member of
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter number 5, Red Cross, " " ".- S uccess in Raleigh as
well as .. where I participate in community activities. The work I do through
these organizations have given me a deep understanding and appreciation of matters of importance to
individuals with disabilities as well as underserved citizens.
With re d to the CCCC Board of Trustees based on the strategic plan an ision for the
college, th ain thrust of the college is to serve the community as a ca st for prospective
students thro \top-levei powerment in areas such as economic developm and training.
