General Statute 153A -52.1, Chairman Shook opened the floor for Public <br />Comments. The following signed up to speak and were allowed 3 minutes for comments: <br />1. Dr. Bud Marchant and Dr. Jeff Moss — spoke in reference to the Caterpillar Youth <br />Apprenticeship Program kick -off scheduled for 6 p.m., June 5, 2012, <br />2. Mr. Kirk Smith, 3108 Avents Ferry Road, Sanfofd� thanked the County Manager <br />and Commissioners for holding the budget, ane <br />3. Mr. Frank Del Palazzo, 425 Rolling Hifl�Road Sanford — addressed open <br />government and transparency; need to t old meetings at 6 p.m. instead of 3:00 <br />and 4:00 to allow citizens the opportunity to attend <br />At this time, the Board held a public hearing in reference to the proposed fire district tax rates for <br />the volunteer fire departments for FY 2012 -13. At the May 21, 2012 regular meeting of the Board of <br />Commissioners, Donald Andrews, Chairman df Lee County Fire Advisory Board presented the fire <br />department budgets and the following proposed ire district tax rates for the upcoming year: <br />FY 2011 - 2 v FY 2012 -13 <br />FIRE DISTRICT RATE RATE <br />Cape Fear $ 0.092 $ 0.092 <br />Carolina Trace$ 0.067 $ 0.075 <br />Clearwater',' Ri $ 0.186 $ 0.186 <br />Deep River $0.104 $ 0.113 <br />Lemon Springs $ 0.086 $ 0.091 <br />Northview $ 0.081 $ 0.081 <br />Tramway $ 0.078 $ 0.079 <br />West Pocket $ 0.124 $ 0.129 <br />opened the public hearing that had been advertised for this date and time. <br />for or against the proposed fire district tax rates as presented. <br />Chairman Shook closed the public hearing. <br />The Board considered a Resolution for construction of a new baseball /softball building on <br />Tramway Road Park. Parks and Recreation Director John Payne stated that Southern Lee High School <br />has developed plans and secured funding from their Booster Club and private sources to construct a <br />building on county park property for their boys and girls softball teams. Mr. Payne stated the structure <br />would be consistent in style and materials with existing park structures and provide lockers, showers, <br />laundry, and equipment storage. The one story structure will contain approximately 2000 sq. feet and <br />will be located to the left side of the main entrance to the ball field complex. A site plan and floor plan <br />was presented for review, along with a letter of support from Head Baseball Coach David Miller. Coach <br />2 <br />
