BK:00024 PG:0928 <br />Ms. Meg Moss, Director of Lee County Industries (LCI) provided the required paperwork to <br />appear before the Board to discuss a new business venture and creation of new jobs at Lee County <br />Industries. LCI is working with the Golden Leaf Foundation for an $86,000 grant to implement the new <br />program Approximately $240,000 will be needed over a two -year period from the Health Department <br />to enter into an agreement with LCI to begin their scanning project. After discussion, Commissioner <br />Reives moved that the County Manager contact Golden Leaf and see if Lee County can use funds <br />repaid from the Frontier Spinning project for this new small business start-up program. Upon a vote, <br />the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Hayes, Oldham, Parks, Paschal, Reives, Shook, and Womack <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered bids for the boiler and chiller replacement project at the Lee County <br />Government Center. County Manager John Crumpton and General Services Director Russell Spivey <br />stated the boiler and chiller replacement project includes replacement of the current 25 year old <br />system. The following bids were received for said project and read on May 8, 2012: <br />McGraw- Morgan, Moseley, VA <br />Mechworks Contractors, Inc., Raleigh, NC <br />Southern Piping, Raleigh, NC <br />Jeff Hargett Mechanical Contractors, Greensboro, NC <br />Quate Industrial, Durham, NC <br />The chiller replacement project also included an alternate item to replace the existing 25 year <br />old water pump that circulates chilled water throughout the Government Center. <br />Mr. Crumpton stated the low bidder for the chiller replacement project was Jeff Hargett <br />Mechanical, Inc., (Greensboro, NC) at $150,900 and low bidder for the boiler replacement project was <br />Mechworks Mechanical Contractors, Inc. (Raleigh, NC) in the amount of $55,000. After discussion, <br />Commissioner Hayes moved to approve bids from Mechworks Mechanical Contractors ($55,000 — <br />boiler replacement) and Jeff Hargett Mechanical, Inc. ($150,900 — chiller replacement) for the boiler <br />and chiller replacement project at the Lee County Government Center. Upon a vote, the results were <br />as follows: <br />Aye: Hayes, Oldham, Parks, Paschal, Reives, Shook, and Womack <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Mr. Donald Andrews, Chairman of the Lee County Fire Advisory Board presented a <br />recommendation from the Fire Advisory Board for the volunteer fire departments for FY 2012 -13. At <br />the May 14` budget work session Mr. Andrews discussed the redrawing of fire department service <br />districts so approximately 1,000 additional structures throughout the County will be eligible for better fire <br />ratings. Information was provided to the Board showing what each volunteer fire department requested <br />in the upcoming budget and what the Fire Advisory Board recommended. Commissioner Reives <br />moved to schedule a public hearing on the Fire Department FY 2012 -13 budgets for the June 4` <br />Commissioner's meeting.
