Salvation Army - 7:45 p.m.
Darla Molina with the Salvation Army stated that they have only been open for just over a
month since they closed due to the pandemic. They are operating the Navigation Center
which is a day center that is available to the homeless. The day center is the only center
opened five days a week during the day for individuals to utilize showers, laundry, and
have breakfast. Free acute healthcare is also available through Dr. Hall with H3 who
comes in every Tuesday to provide medical services to guests. Case management is
provided for peer support services for people with active addictions. They provide support
for various needs such as helping to fill out job applications, resume writing,
transportation to job fairs and vaccine clinics. About 637 have been served since they
have reopened. 219 people of the people that have come in do not require duplicate
services. The goal of the center is to provide assistance and access to resources in order
to help guests become economically self-sufficient and productive citizens to Lee County.
Services are provided free to Lee County Residents. The Bread of Life Ministery is
loaning the day facility to the Salvation Army. Some Salvation Army programs have had
to scale down or were eliminated during the pandemic.
Family Promise - 8:00 p.m.
Tamara Brogran, Executive Director of Family Promise of Lee County, provided an
overview of what Family Promise provides for the community. The organization has been
in existence since 2011 helping families experiencing homelessness. The requirement is
that individuals must have children to be eligible for the program, which happens through
referrals. They also work closely with Lee County Schools. The intake process gives a
baseline for needs and for people ineligible for their services, they make referrals to
other agencies. Their facility is usually full with a wait list but they continue to try to serve
people as soon as possible. Background checks and drug screenings are conducted as a
requirement for families entering the facilities program. 30 churches in Lee County
provide shelter and meals. The organization includes 217 volunteers, a day center, a staff
executive director, a case manager, and a program assistant. In 2020 the operational
model had to change due to the pandemic and the families in the church program were
brought into the day center. The day center provides showers, storage, donations, a
temporary mailing address, and is a school bus stop for children. Program services
include housing, employment, classes for parenting and financial guidance, referrals
through collaboration with outside agencies, legal counsel, educational resources, shelter
and meals, case management, and transportation. For 2020, 11 families were served
including 43 individuals. 183 families served since 2011.
5
