the mental health building because there have been a lot of problems with leaks. Due to the
recent challenges related to fuel there has been an increase in cost and the department
continues to operate a fueling station that has to be certified and inspected by the state. The
department purchases a tanker of gas and diesel every other week which is also for the
schools, law enforcement, fire departments, and EMS. Commissioner Reives expressed
concerns regarding housekeeping and what the housekeeping and maintenance staff have
been around through the pandemic. In addition to the housekeeping position, a maintenance
worker and electrical mechanic were included in the recommended budget.
Solid Waste Superintendent Joseph Cherry stated that Solid Waste has a lot of challenges.
The biggest challenge is the unintended use of convenience centers. The other challenge is
taking on programs such as litter control that is estimated to cost about $48,000 over the
next fiscal year. A fee increase was included in the recommended budget and is needed due
to an increase in industry and housing developments. Also included is a study to evaluate
the need for a new convenience center. Recycling has taken a hit over the last few years
particularly with China not taking a lot of the recyclables. The cost is about $132 a ton for
comingled recycling. The recommended budget also includes incorporating a sticker
program to access the main convenience centers. Each household that pays the fee would
get two stickers.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion: Motion to adjourn.
