Kirk Smith, Bill Carver Absent: 1 - Mark Lovick Motion Result: Passed V.F Assignment of option to purchase the Marelli Building as requested by the Central Carolina Community College Board of Trustees The CCCC Board of Trustees has requested that the County purchase the Magneti Marelli Building, which includes various buildings and approximately 22 acres of land (PIN 9652- 74-4328-00), in order for future expansion at the College. Dr. Lisa Chapman, President of Central Carolina Community College, was present and referred to a resolution approved by the Board of Trustees for the county to purchase a portion of the Marelli property for the College to expand their services into a manufacturing solutions center for the region focusing on biotech and agriculture technology. Dr. Chapman stated that they would like to expand instructional offerings and would move programs from the main campus to the expanded facility. She added that the College would also look at moving programing that is at CCEP to the Marelli site. They envision ensuring companies expanding, developing and transitioning to the area have local resources for customized training and potential temporary office space and a small business incubator site to continue to support the development of the industry. It is an ideal location because services can be consolidated at the Lee/Main Campus for many years to come and is ideally located to the Conference and Convention Center. Dr. Chapman stated that CCCC has wanted to move Lee Early College to a permanent facility on site and to expand the current library facility. The original request included a building for the classrooms and library. As classes are transitioned to expanded area, Lee Early College could be moved to one of the permanent facilities on the main campus which would include classrooms and offices for faculty. Dr. Crumpton stated that assuming the sale of the buildings at CCEP are applied to the purchase of the land and/or renovations, the purchase of the Marelli building and renovations along with the renovations on Main Campus would be covered in the original anticipated cost of the CCCC Library/Lee Early College Classroom project.
